Chris Hipkins Communication
The Chris Hipkins communication (13.03.26) that our resilience as a nation matters now more than ever had the quality of a leader connecting with the people and was refreshingly different to the humdrum self-praising of the incumbent government. Chris spoke of our strength of resilience and of facing uncertainty by backing each other. New Zealand strengths have come to the fore in the past as shown by the following initiatives: - The world’s first self-governing nation to allow women to vote in parliamentary elections. In 1987, New Zealand became the first nation to adopt a legally binding legislation prohibiting nuclear weapons and nuclear-powered ships within its territory. Often dubbed a ‘social laboratory ’in the late 19th/early 20th century, it pioneered initiatives like old-age pensions (1898), industrial arbitration (1894), and a strong comprehensive welfare system. In 1993, the country adopted mixed member Proportional (MMP) representation, fostering more diverse representation, coalition governments, and leading to high women’s participation (reaching 50%in 2022). The Human Rights Commission reports ongoing efforts to honor the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi and includes significant historical settlements recognizing Maori rights. The country has a long history of environmental initiatives, including promoting a ‘clean, green’ image , the first national park (Tongariro, 1887), and recent initiatives to reduce carbon emissions. New Zealand was one of the first countries to pass homosexual law reform in the 1980’s Furthermore, as a nation we have demonstrated many strengths such as that we equal, if not surpass, any nation when we are part of a ‘teamwork’ approach or collective effort. This characteristic is demonstrated in sporting endeavours, in hosting international events, in producing opening ceremonies, in national charity appeals and in community endeavours. I have never doubted that NZ politicians would consider that New Zealand’s most valuable asset is New Zealanders. That being so, it makes darned good sense that a government would support a concept that maximises the benefit of our most valuable asset, New Zealanders and builds on this national characteristic. There is an incredibly simple concept that gives us the opportunity to kick neoliberalism into the ditch and do some good for the whole world. A Precedent – a New Zealand Success Story In the year ’99 –’00 the Air New Zealand company was close to bankruptcy following a disastrous investment in Ansett Airlines. It was mooted that Singapore Airlines may take a 50% share of Air New Zealand as a survival strategy. The New Zealand labour government rescued the company by injecting capital and took a majority shareholding. After navigating the first year of recovery John Palmer (Chairman) and his team encouraged a recovery team culture amongst Air New Zealand employees by giving an equitable distribution of $500.00 bonus for all employees. The Directors did so on multiple occasions in the following 15 years, on the latest occasion the equitable bonus was $1800.00. The achievement of Air New Zealand as an admired international airline based on a comparatively very small domestic market is simply outstanding. It is impossible to measure or quantify the effects of these equitable payments on the culture and employee motivation but we see the outcome in the company success. There is a very strong possibility that the suggestion of an equitable distribution of bonus, to build on our teamwork characteristics, actually came from the then Minister of Labour, Hon Margaret Wilson. That management style continued for about the next fifteen years. Also, In the formative years of the Maori Television Company employees were given an equitable bonus distribution of $1000.00. At one stage the Auckland Airport Company was also giving an equitable distribution of bonus. The current Prime Minister, Christopher Luxon used Air New Zealand as a launch base for his political career and yet it was the NZ Labour Party and a suggested management style from Labour that was very instrumental in the recovery from near bankruptcy of that Air NZ launch base for Luxon. The proposed Timacapitalism concept is a minor variation of what Air New Zealand did up until about eight years ago. Timacapitalism is a surprisingly simple minor refinement to capitalism that will give improved productivity, more profits, more employee loyalty, more engaged synergetic employees and easier management. The concept still supports the positive aspect of capitalism allowing for entrepreneurial activity and wealth creation. Additionally, the potential for universal application, gives a vision of a better world that brings people together and reasserts our humanity. If timacapitalism became part of ‘the NZ Way’, it would be New Zealand employees contributing to a more robust economy and creating more social cohesion. Timacapitalism is capitalism with a heart and taps into people power. A quote from Albert Einstein is pertinent ‘That times of uncertainty or crisis are prime for new initiatives. The New Zealand Labour Party in association with the Maori Iwi Forum intends to explore the successful management style as used in Air New Zealand company. They are announcing their intent to investigate Timacapitalism becoming a framework available to NZ companies possibly with reduced company tax as an incentive for those companies embracing the concept. It is a policy initiative that will bring people together with a hopeful vision and build on New Zealanders strengths. Timacapitalism We do not bring people together with an industrial relations framework predicated on an adversarial attitude between employers and employees. We start to bring people together when employers see employees as co-partners in success. This is a time for humanity to counter the negative outcomes of neoliberalist capitalism and bring people together with a hopeful vision. New Zealand’s most valuable asset will not be AI software from megalomaniac’s intent on power and control, New Zealand’s most valuable asset will be New Zealanders taking control and reasserting our humanity. Elon Musk – it is a blatant abdication and denial of one of the great strengths of the human condition – empathy. It is completely abhorrent that Elon Musk is paid 6.7 trillion and believe what he does. Thank God for our empathy for others less fortunate. If AI agents of the future have the ability to manipulate commodity markets or squeeze an economy as is happening with Cuba now, so Mr Trump can grab Cuba, then they may have the ability to cripple the NZ economy and grab our country. We simply have to address this current world demise and reassert our humanity. We need the courage to act on principle and stand for our country to support an initiative that undermines the neoliberalist hegemony. Is there any New Zealand political party or two that have the courage and vision to consign neoliberalism to history, get back to bringing people together and reassert our humanity? That party will be admired and rewarded by the NZ electorate. We have to change to a multipolar world and get away from the American led geopolitical hegemony. What is the most valuable thing in the world ‘He Tangata, he tangata, he tangata’ it is the people, it is the people, it is the people. The easiest way to respond to people making suggestions that are outside the status quo is to simply ignore them and so we are guaranteed that nothing will change. Suggested letter from employers to employees Introducing the Timacapitalism Concept The Board of Directors and managers of the company are in support of the concept called ‘Timacapitalism’. Management recognizes the ‘inherent rightness’ of all employees being a ‘part of’ the success of an enterprise and receiving a tangible meaningful return during successful years. The ‘them and us’ attitudes that have prevailed in earlier years within capitalism can be consigned to history. If we all work together, we all win. The timacapitalism concept allows for an annual low tax payment for each employee dependent on enterprise success. These payments are termed timacapitalism payments. This is a second tier of remuneration aimed at creating a culture of teamwork and co-operation within the company. The Timacapitalism concept is intended to bring all employees together in a co-operative culture with the purpose of achieving enterprise success. All employees from the C.E.O. down qualify for, and benefit from, the timacapitalism concept in an open transparent way. It is the transparency of qualification and benefit that builds trust and teamwork, and creates a talking point throughout the enterprise. The concept is relatively simple but the power is in the intent, the intent that management now sees employees in an employee partnership and not as an asset brought together to earn a dividend for external capital, an employee partnership, as distinct from shareholders or investor partnership. There are four levels of timacapitalism units determined by loyalty and service:- After one year of employment an employee attains level one timacapitalism qualifying Unit. After two years of employment an employee attains two Timacapitalisml qualifying Units. After four years of employment an employee attains three Timacapitalism qualifying Units. After six years of employment an employee attains receives the maximum level of four Timacapitalism qualifying Units. The important differing aspect of a Timacapitalism payment is that it is not an individual performance bonus; it is a co-operative culture common bond – the cement that binds the co-operative team together. Employees are respected as co-partners in success and all employees participate in the benefits of success at this level in an equitable manner. In these co-operative workplaces performance related remuneration will be reflected in an employee’s contracted or baseline remuneration although the possibility of some employees being on performance bonuses (e.g. sales targets being met) can coexist with Timacapitalism. The remuneration forthcoming from timacapitalism payments is a relatively small proportion of total remuneration but the concept intent will achieve the goal of creating a teamwork culture. Of course, the starting point for any discussion of motivation in the workplace is that people have to earn a living. Your salaries, contract payments, and benefits are what we call baseline remuneration. Remuneration for qualifications, responsibilities, seniority and performance are already in place in baseline remuneration and additionally all employees will now qualify for the Timacapitalism payments following a successful year for the company. This transparency of qualification and transparency of payment benefits for all employees at this one level of the remuneration package, creates a culture where Timacapitalism payment prospects become a talking point throughout an enterprise from CEO to shop floor, and a real sense of being a ‘part of’ the co-operative team for enterprise success. Management envisages at this stage a guideline objective of from $400.00 to $1,500.00 for each qualifying timacapitalism qualifying unit depending on company performance. These timacapitalism payment amounts may be exceeded dependant on company performance with the proviso that no employee’s total timacapitalism payments can exceed 20% of total remuneration. The 20% ceiling on timacapitalism payments may be applied in the following imagined example. Considering if each qualifying timacapitalism unit was in the order of $1500 and an employee was on the maximum of four qualifying units, the proviso that total timacapitalism payments cannot exceed 20% of total remuneration may limit the amount of timacapitalism payment received by lower paid employees. The intention is not to penalise those employees but rather that they gain greater skills and take on more responsibility to increase their base salary to gain the maximum available timacapitalism payment amount. It therefore creates an aspiration to self-achieve. (a tenet of capitalism). One of the objectives of the timacapitalism concept is that payments will be recorded separately from PAYE remuneration on IRD tax returns and that an enlightened government will agree to have a tax level on these payments considerably lower than PAYE rates for all recipients regardless of current PAYE tax level. In this way government will be encouraging co-operative teamwork cultures in workplaces. The timacapitalism concept has universal application and management is expecting other companies to adopt the concept. Furthermore, if our company succeeds in reducing its ‘carbon footprint rating’ during the year The Inland Revenue Department will reduce the timacapitalism payment tax by an additional 2% and this will be available as a tax refund. It should be pointed out at this stage that the timacapitalism payment does not form any part of the employment contract and the payments made do not constitute any part of basic remuneration. Employees looking forward to the prospective level of timacapitalism payment have to recognise that enterprise success is not always directly related to workplace productivity and can be subject to the vagaries of capitalism e.g. commodity prices, competitors or downturns in markets. Business cycles are a reality of the marketplace, but with all employees working as a team, timacapitalism enterprises will weather the downturns and prosper in the good times. Part-time employment may qualify for timacapitalism payments on a pro-rata basis of employment duration although timacapitalism payment is only available for those currently employed. Employees are not to assume either that the accrual of timacapitalism qualifying units will also confer a greater security of employment for employees. Companies cannot remain in business if they are no longer viable and business decisions regarding staffing may still be necessary. However, this new concept will strengthen our whole enterprise and, hopefully, job losses will occur less commonly. It is more likely that new opportunities may open up for employees to work in other areas or new directions of the company’s operation. New employees who have previously been with another timacapitalism company will have a starting number of qualifying units determined by our own employees after consultation. Management intends to improve communication with all employees regarding the company’s performance during the year, providing that this is not divulging information of strategic importance to a competitor. The payment amount of the qualifying unit will be determined upon the following considerations: Maintaining the confidence of investors who may be called on for more capital Short term business prospects
There also has to be recognition by employees of the need to look to the future so that the enterprise is able to be successful and provide employment in the future for young people joining the workforce (and therefore capital must be used in the best way for changing market conditions).
Observations on Capitalism Capitalism through its evolution has undoubtedly been beneficial to living standards for the vast majority. Free market capitalism has created developments that have been enormously beneficial to the living standards of mankind. That entrepreneurs are more creative, inventive, industrious, tenacious, risk averse or more philanthropic has benefitted living standards in countless ways. Capitalism’s evolution, however, has also been subject to lobbying by vested interests. In countries where political parties rely on member and corporate donations for campaign funding, it is inevitable that domestic and foreign policies can be influenced, particularly by major corporate political supporters. This leads to situation where powerful bankers and international corporates can influence government policy. We know from a reading of Yuval Harari's book 'Sapiens' (published by Penguin 2011) that established institutions are not necessarily functioning in the most advantageous way. As Harari showed us, they are not based on an objective reality but rather they are myths that have been agreed upon as they evolved. Capitalism has evolved, and was shaped, from times when employees would have been illiterate, which opened the door for exploitation and greed resulting in the emergence of trade unionism. Regardless of the origins of capitalism, it is a human construct that has been allowed to evolve to a point where the very benefits of capitalism in its infancy have now been eroded. We now have extreme inequality, vast aaccumulations of wealth in minority groups, corporates that are larger than national economies, we are also seeing high levels of employee disengagement, high levels of social alienation (The sense of not feeling a part of a collective goal or hopeful social vision). and more widespread stress and use of depression medication. Neo-liberalist capitalism has given us a system that is far from ideal. A clearer description of how capitalism has evolved detrimentally is in BlogPost ‘Timacapitalism’ http://www.co-operativecapitalism.com/blog-posts Observations on people An important psychological need of people is the sense of belonging to, or being part of, a wider grouping. Quoting Yuval Harari from the book 'Sapiens' p.403 (published by Penguin 2011) 'Millions of years of evolution have designed us to live and think as community members. Within a mere two centuries we have become alienated individuals. Although undoubtedly beneficial in raising living standards, capitalism, and other cultural changes, have undermined that sense of belonging and I suggest the current high levels of antidepressant use, and high levels of suicide are results of an increased feeling of alienation within society. A common need in human society across all cultures is the need to belong and be accepted by others. A sense of belonging is crucial to our life satisfaction, happiness, mental and physical health and even longevity. It gives us a sense of purpose and meaning. Research has shown that loss of belonging has been associated with stress, illness and decreased wellbeing and depression. Abraham Maslow ranked the need for belonging as the next level up after physiological needs (like food and sleep) and safety needs in his 'Hierarchy of Needs'. One percent of the world’s population are in control of computer systems, satellite systems that service communications, software that facilitates businesses from banking through to manufacturing, social network systems and our entertainment sources. They are driving how we live but they are also in a race for artificial intelligence supremacy. We are all digitally colonised. We have evolved as organic beings, does humanity now want a world where controls and decisions affecting our lives are made by inorganic AI agents or does humanity want to reassert our humanity? We simply have to bring people together and then from improved social cohesion tackle the issues at hand. This concept of timacapitalism is put forward as a potential pathway. We have to acknowledge the exceptionalism of ourselves, our kind on our miracle planet home. The concept of ‘Timacapitalism’ arises from merging the benefits of capitalism and free enterprise with the productivity and social benefits existing in co-operative culture enterprises and has been driven primarily by the following three beliefs.
Observations on Artificial Intelligence We have evolved as organic beings, does humanity now want a world where decisions and controls are made by inorganic AI agents or does humanity want to reassert our humanity? The initial intrigue and amazement with the capability of ‘ChatGPT’ and the knowledge within AI is now being replaced with increasing concern regarding the direction and goals of AI. https://www.businessinsider.com/godfather-ai-geoffrey-hinton-warns-not-ready-for-whats-coming-2025-11 https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/13/tech/ai-geoffrey-hinton How can we control an alien intelligence? | Yuval Noah Harari and Stephen Fry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BnZMeFtoAM https://futurism.com/artificial-intelligence/godfather-ai-breakdown-society https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/oct/22/harry-and-meghan-join-ai-pioneers-call-ban-superintelligent-systems Bernie Sanders Delivers Clear Warning About AI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3qS345gAWI
‘Godfather of AI’ predicts it will take over the world | LBC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KmopXwjXik Nobel Prize winner Geoffrey Hinton, the physicist known for his pioneering work in the field, told LBC's Andrew Marr that artificial intelligences had developed consciousness - and could one day take over the world. Giant software companies and governments are in a race for AI supremacy. We have evolved as organic beings; the AI race is creating inorganic agents with complex algorithms and self-determining capability. Inorganic AI agents already have legal status in America. The prospect of future generations of children living in a world where decisions affecting their lives are taken by inorganic agents would be tragic. To support their ambitions the proponents of AI have arranged for public relations media releases lauding the benefits of AI, suggesting that AI will create undiscovered medicinal drugs for the benefit of humankind. There is nothing in life more amazing than the exceptionalism of ourselves, our kind. Additionally, the exceptionalism of our home, the wonders and bounty of planet earth, is a miracle of cosmic evolution. We must kick back against this uncontrolled push for AI supremacy. Kick back by celebrating the exceptionalism of ourselves, our kind, and celebrate the exceptionalism of our home, miracle planet earth and the natural paradise that is Aotearoa. There are almost daily media announcements of massive job losses by AI, a prediction of 40 million job losses in America https://www.businessinsider.com/andrew-yang-ai-may-wipe-out-40-million-us-jobs-2025-12#:~:text=An%20IMF%20analysis%20from%202024,being%20negatively%20impacted%20by%20it and AI eliminating a half of entry-level white-collar jobs over the next five years https://research.aimultiple.com/ai-job-loss/ and, 11.7% of US work force representing a loss of 1.7 trillion in wages https://www.techradar.com/pro/mit-study-claims-ai-could-currently-replace-12-percent-of-total-us-jobs-market and 3 million lower paid jobs to be lost in the U.K. Bernie Sanders Youtube ‘AI Oligarchs want it all’ 26.03.26 https://www.youtube.com/live/x1WdV6w2U7s and who are the beneficiaries of all this? Certainly not society or community. When one of the more significant participants in this AI supremacy race has stated publicly that empathy is a weakness of western civilisation we get a sense of where this is all headed. Empathy is one of humanities great strengths. The race for AI supremacy is all about power and control and it is non-sensical. What benefit for society or communities is there in this scenario? People working co-operatively in any endeavour has served us well in so many ways throughout our evolution. Strategy to Kickstart Interest ‘A pathway to undermine neoliberalism anticipates the following steps:
Each of the above steps will focus more attention on the concept and that attention will show that the concept is sound, it improves productivity, synergy, employee loyalty, eased management, improved social cohesion and yet retains scope for entrepreneurial capitalism. My preferred pathway for this breakthrough would originate from within Maoridom and extend out through indigenous cultures worldwide. So, the indigenous people in the world will have a more people centric inclusive form of capitalism. Any country wanting a more inclusive form of capitalism and a more robust economy can follow that lead and enjoy all the ensuing social benefits that will be realised. I anticipate we will see a threshold reached whereby timacapitalism becomes self-proliferating and progressively we reassert our humanity. These steps indicate my preference that this concept becomes a Maori initiative. That is partially due to me receiving the most encouraging feedback from prominent Maori people but also Maori culture has a strong people and whenua focus. There is that wonderful Maori maxim - What is the most valuable thing in the world? He Tangata, He Tangata, He Tangata (It is the people, it is the people, it is the people), It will be an initiative that will undermine a current mindset that I am seeing as corrosive for New Zealand. Within sections of Maoridom and also in the The Maori Party, people are embroiled with grievance issues and many are taking an anti-colonialism adversarial stance. Within the political landscape I would like to see a Maori political party break that mindset and become admired, from its people focussed culture, for its progressive policies. By championing the timacapitalism concept Maoridom will be seen as being smarter than the current pakeha ideology. As timacapitalism is recognised as an improved refinement to neoliberalist capitalism the Maori culture and its people focus will be acknowledged as making it happen. Perceptions will be changed both within and outside of Maoridom. One of the wealthiest and politically influential people says that empathy is a weakness of western civilisation and this man through his Starlink satellites can deny geographic areas access to the internet. In the land of Judaea Israeli people are exacting extreme horrific suffering on their neighbours. The current American government does not accept that climate change exists and that climate change will make life unliveable for thousands of species on our miracle planet home. Geopolitical conflicts and tensions are growing. These are all toxic and we have to act. These observations of current concerns worldwide and the awful state of the world, the geopolitical manoeuvring, the disgregard for international law and the abhorrent violence against innocent people, leads me to suggest that a sound concept, an initiative of fresh thinking and a proposal to reassert our humanity will be embraced and welcomed by many. A quote from by Albert Einstein is pertinent ‘That times of uncertainty or crisis are prime for new initiatives. Life's meanderings show us that there are positives in every situation. A recalled quote (but cannot recall the author) that ‘Life continually presents us with tremendous opportunities very well disguised as unsolvable problems.’ An often-voiced criticism of economic plans is that continued growth is unsustainable – whilst this may be true, surely a less alienated, more socially cohesive inclusive society, together with a robust economy, is going to be far better placed to face whatever changes in economic direction or imperatives may be necessary for our future generations. I am shocked by how rapidly there is general embracing of this Chat GT and AI software when the companies developing this software are racing each other for AI supremacy to a world where inorganic AI agents make decisions beyond our control and beyond our understanding. These are dangerous times and the imperative is that we reassert our humanity. When a very powerful individual closely involved with these developments publicly states that empathy is a weakness of civilisation, we get a portent of where this is all headed – a race for power through AI supremacy. There is a difficult hurdle for the Green Party. We are faced with needing to make a transition from the outcome of deregulated capitalism to a more inclusive form of capitalism. There is a worldwide proliferation of many thousands of capitalist businesses. Any suggestion of a refinement to capitalism has no hope of success unless the existing power base is given an attractive proposition. This is the reason for asserting that the concept will improve productivity and profitability. It is a strategy to kick start the concept, but the long-term goal is more social cohesion. If continued growth is unsustainable the future measures of business success will have different considerations and profit may not be the only objective. It would be a paradox if it was The Green Party putting forward a policy to improve productivity but, if they are true to their long-term objective of bringing people together and more social cohesion then the means is justified. Non-profit endeavours can utilise this framework by having criteria other than increased profit for measuring success e.g. meeting or surpassing budget goals, meeting or surpassing service goals, expanding the customer base, growing the business, contributing to community endeavours, employing disabled personnel, contributing to natural disaster recovery, reducing health budgets. It is a surprisingly simple framework that gives us a more people centric capitalism, which will dovetail with the Maori proverb ‘What is the most important thing in the world? ‘He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.’ It is the people. It is the people. It is the people. This innovative initiative will naturally become a focal point for new attitudes. This surprisingly simple framework has no initiating cost, no running cost and no risk. The power is in the intent, the intent 'That employees are recognised as employee partners in business success.' This concept can be one thing that unites us, and all participants are winners. Businesses get what they want, higher productivity, more profits, easier management and more employee engagement, more loyalty, and a potential step to a breakdown of inequality and there is no longer the need for power and control. Employees can identify with a larger success story creating more motivation and work satisfaction. The surprisingly simple framework has universal application and in the larger picture employees are assisting a worldwide movement in reasserting our humanity. Not only is this refinement to capitalism more inclusive, but arising from more widespread adoption of the framework, the ensuing social cohesion will beneficially impact on health, happiness and hope and possibly reduce health budgets. More social cohesion would counter the detrimental alienating outcome of neo liberal capitalism, more social cohesion will also be beneficial in policy imperatives for combating climate change. Given the current political and geopolitical climate, even the suggestion of an initiative that reasserts our humanity would be eagerly seized upon. This timacapitalism concept does have universal application and is a surprisingly simple refinement to capitalism. Opinion Piece In the spirit of Tino Rangitiratangi as in benefitting the well-being of all, and in recognition of the Maori maxim - What is the most valuable thing in the world? He Tangata, He Tangata, He Tangata (It is the people, it is the people, it is the people), We, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, are endorsing the inclusive framework of capitalism called ‘Timacapitalism’. Timacapitalism sees employees as co-partners in success not as a resource brought together to earn a dividend on externally sourced capital. We anticipate that Timacapitalism will create a synergetic culture delivering improved productivity, more engaged and motivated employees, easier management, and more company loyalty. New Zealand’s greatest assets are not major investments by corporates; New Zealand’s greatest asset is New Zealanders. xxxxxxxxxxxxx believes that with the Timacapitalism concept New Zealanders will live up to expectations and possibly exceed expectations. Initially we ask that Maori enterprises throughout NZ consider implementing the timacapitalism framework and we are confident that our people will respond positively in embracing the concept. Whilst improved productivity, improved profitability and stability will lead to more robust economy for future generations, the inclusive aspect of timacapitalism, will importantly, see more social cohesion, hope and happiness, and possibly a reduction in health budgets. Any suggestion that this concept is socialist is nonsense, it is a smart capitalism, what entrepreneur would not want all employees motivated for the success of the enterprise. We give advanced suggestion for a future government to plan for timacapitalism payments to be recorded separately on Paye returns and for such payments to be taxed at a lower rate than standard Paye rates. In this way a government can encourage co-operative teamwork in capitalist businesses. In these uncertain times and with New Zealand recovering from a recession Timacapitalism can be a focal point for fresh thinking. A concept that will capitalise on the talents and enthusiasm of New Zealand’s most valuable asset New Zealanders. New Zealanders have shown that they equal, if not surpass, any nation when they are part of a ‘teamwork’ approach or collective effort. This characteristic is demonstrated in virtually all sporting endeavours, in hosting international events, in producing opening ceremonies, in national charity appeals and in community endeavours. Despite having these teamwork and collective effort characteristics, we have the paradox of New Zealand having very low workplace productivity as shown on international comparisons? How do we capitalise on these characteristics to change that reputation? If New Zealanders are our greatest asset, it makes good sense that a government would support a concept that maximises the benefit of that asset. If timacapitalism became part of ‘the NZ Way’, it would be New Zealand employees contributing to a more robust economy and creating more social cohesion. The timacapitalism is a framework that will achieve that goal. The timacapitalism framework has virtually no implementation or running cost and no risk. Improved productivity is but one of many positive outcomes emerging from the concept if timacapitalism became part of the New Zealand way. Often the best solution is the simplest solution. The beauty of this proposal is its simplicity. It is a framework that people will respond to positively. The power of this concept is in the changed attitudes, the intent that employees are now seen as co-partners in success. Assuming that there are changed attitudes on the part of management and government the actual implementation is surprisingly simple. Timacapitalism payments recorded separately on tax returns are a relatively small portion of total remuneration. The proposed reduced tax rate on timacapitalism payments is in no way to be seen as a subsidy. It is an end of the line incentive arising from improved performance. The announcement of a lower tax rate for success payments (encouraging co-operation and teamwork) could in fact be an opportunity for an upward shift in PAYE rates if fiscally prudent to do so. Our economy must have successful businesses and the Maori management style adopting the timacapitalism framework, as proposed, will more readily tap into those admirable characteristics of New Zealanders. The co-operative culture will contribute to business success and following successful years, a Board of Directors have an additional consideration when deciding on the allocation of profits, the directors must ensure a continuation of the ongoing synergetic contribution of all employees when considering the amount to distribute for each Timacapitalism qualifying unit, Sometimes in life the great breakthroughs are surprisingly simple ideas.
